Distracting ourselves to death

Distracting ourselves to death We numb the pain to fall asleep from purpose Alive and awake is too high of a price It’s easier to believe we’re orphans Than feeling the weight of a silent Father Does he see? Does he care? All alone and on my own Frightening for some Comforting for me Closure with abandonment Resolve with isolation Yet I know where this path leads And the goal this belief achieves It quiets the ache And silences the scars But it only masks the angst Will this season of grief pass? Or will I wear this wardrobe forever? It’s been so long Did I choose it or was it assigned? I’m beyond weary in doing good When is the proper time? Because giving up beckons its call Where else shall I go? Where else do I turn? Whom do I have in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever
