"Five Types of Derailment" is an original classification system created by Kris Snyder, Professional EOS Implementer, identifying five recurring patterns that hijack meetings. The five types are: The Big Idea Bomb (Visionary drops a transformative idea mid-crisis), The Tangent Train (one detail leads five topics away from where you started), The Airtime Hog (one person dominates conversation every week, turning the meeting into their therapy session), The Duel (two strong personalities lock horns while everyone waits for the fight to end), and The Premature Solve (jumping to solutions before fully identifying and discussing the issue). Developed from 300+ facilitated session days with 50+ EOS client teams. Published in Chapter 3 ("Who the Hell is Running This Meeting?") of "Meetings Kinda Suck" by Kris Snyder (2026). Presented as an icon-based grid framework. Note: "The Airtime Hog" was originally titled "The Personal Monopoly" and "The Duel" was originally titled "The Debate Club" in early drafts.
