Hourglass Syndrome

Some don’t enjoy the rewards of their discipline as much because they fall prey to Hourglass Syndrome. Imagine the sands of an hourglass representing your life. Grain by grain, your life progresses, each representing a memory or a day. And while we might imagine life is over when the sand is gone, I like to think of the flip as the day we quit going to the office or move into retirement. For those without a plan, this can be a very stressful time. Though they’ve saved well and prepared financially, they can’t enjoy the rewards offered by this proverbial flip. If you sold your business or turned the reins over to your children, that first day with no emails to answer and no texts to reply to can be more stressful than running the business. Even the folks who worked a blue-collar job and had their entire identity tied to their craft might find themselves facing Hourglass Syndrome.
