Lug nuts and car washes: An analogous thought process used to help illustrate to individuals how many people deal with friction in life (i.e., emotional crises, relationship struggles, mental health struggles, etc.) by prettying up the outside or doing the easy things in hopes that change or alleviation would come. This would be the washing the car part of the analogy. Many personal struggles endured by individuals will never find the cessation of symptoms they are looking for because, instead of washing the car, they need to realize they are missing several, if not many, lug nuts on the vehicle; in other words, there are more critical issues that need to be confronted to find freedom and healing
